China and Iceland agreed that climate change is one of the major challenges of our time. They reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of fairness and common but differentiated responsibilities, pledging to uphold and implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement based on their respective national circumstances.

To this end, both sides agree that geothermal energy plays a vital role in mitigating climate change and achieving green transformation. They agree to further strengthen green cooperation in the following areas:

Building on long-term cooperation, both sides will enhance intergovernmental and industry-to-industry collaboration to develop geothermal energy potential globally, regionally, and nationally; promote geothermal energy utilization; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; advance energy transition; create new green industries and jobs; and continuously improve people’s quality of life.

Both sides will support and promote sustainable development policies, measures, and practices; develop circular economies and sustainable green value chains; encourage green innovation and low-carbon solutions; and advance gender equality throughout these processes. They will jointly advance global efforts to address plastic pollution.

Relevant competent authorities, enterprises, and organizations of both sides will, based on mutual interests and available resources and within their respective responsibilities, engage in cooperation and dialogue on existing areas of collaboration and new initiatives conducive to accelerating the green transition and sustainable development. They will promote professional exchanges through meetings, visits, and other forms, and strengthen communication in multilateral processes of mutual concern.
