At 3:00 PM on November 5, 2025, the 500-kilovolt Jinhaihu Power Transmission and Transformation Project successfully
completed live switching of its main transformers, marking the official commissioning of this major infrastructure project
for Guizhou’s power grid. As a key initiative under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan for electricity development, the project carries
a total investment of 1.785 billion yuan. Construction commenced in June 2024 and will further optimize the backbone
grid structure of Guizhou’s power network.

Guizhou Power Grid Company’s Construction Branch, explained: “Nearly 10,000 tons of tower materials were transported
through a coordinated effort involving helicopter lifts, mule-back transport, and manual carrying. Additionally, 195 temporary
transport routes were carved out along cliffs and precipices.” By adopting drone-guided rope technology and a digital
management platform, the construction team achieved an average daily cable-laying progress of approximately 2 kilometers.
This transmission and transformation project incorporates multiple technological innovations. The line features DC de-icing
design capable of withstanding up to 3,000 amperes of direct current, significantly enhancing the grid’s resistance to ice
accumulation. As Bijie’s first 500-kilovolt smart substation, the Jinhaihu Substation enables real-time monitoring and precise
control of equipment operation, with over 25,000 signal monitoring points. Zhang Jian, a specialist from Bijie Power Supply
Bureau, noted that this intelligent design better facilitates the integration of new energy sources.
Following commissioning, the project formed a 500-kilovolt power ring network connecting Wusa Substation, Jinhaihu
Substation, and Shexiang Substation, significantly enhancing the mutual support capability and operational flexibility of
Guizhou’s power grid. Long Jiahuan, General Manager of the Infrastructure Department at Guizhou Power Grid Company,
emphasized: “This will further refine Guizhou’s 500-kilovolt backbone grid structure, playing a positive role for both the
province and the ‘Guizhou Power to Guangdong’ initiative.” According to estimates, the project can absorb 8 billion kWh
of clean energy annually, transmit over 15 billion kWh of electricity, meet the power demand of more than 2 million households,
and provide an efficient transmission channel for Bijie’s 7.84 million kW of new energy installed capacity.
