South Africa’s power generation capacity is improving, officials say they will gradually get rid of power rationing

As of July 3, local time, South Africa’s electricity curtailment level has dropped to a lower level of three, and the duration of power curtailment has

reached the shortest in nearly two years. According to South African Power Minister Ramo Haupa, South Africa’s power generation capacity has

been significantly improved, and South Africans are expected to be free from the impact of continuous power cuts this winter.

Since 2023, South Africa’s power rationing problem has become more and more serious. Frequent power rationing measures have seriously

affected the production and life of local people. At the beginning of the year, it entered a state of national disaster due to large-scale power rationing.

Especially with the coming of winter, the outside world is unanimously pessimistic about the prospect of power supply in South Africa this winter.

However, South Africa’s power supply situation has continued to improve as Ramohaupa came to power and power system reforms continued.

According to Ramohaupa, the current expert team of the South African National Power Company is working around the clock to ensure that the

power generation capacity of the power company can meet the higher electricity demand of the people in winter. At present, it can basically

guarantee two-thirds of the day There is no power rationing, and the supply and demand are gradually shrinking, which will enable South Africa

to gradually get rid of power rationing.

According to Ramohaupa, through the strengthening of internal supervision and the entry of the South African National Defense Force, the current

sabotage and corruption cases against the South African power system have also been greatly reduced, which undoubtedly boosted the confidence

of the outside world in the South African National Power Corporation.

However, Ramohaupa said frankly that generator sets in many places are still in failure, and the power supply system is still fragile and faces relatively

high risks. Therefore, the South African people still need to prepare for the possibility of nationwide power reduction measures.
